In a slightly different take on a period film, Saving Mr. Banks tries to take place during the 1960s, while not being totally about the decade–a delicate balance. Director John Lee Hancock says of costume designer Daniel Orlandi: “[He] has the ability to evoke the period, but not show the period off. He has the ability to make people look real in their clothes.”

Orlandi also used costume choices to showcase the difference between the buttoned up P.L. Travers of London, and the more sunny, carefree characters in Los Angeles.
