What made you choose a Disney Cruise line wedding?
Back in 2016, Johnny and I took a Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Dream for a Valentine’s Day getaway. We had such an amazing time together, with fun filled memories that could last a lifetime. Since I was a young girl, I always wanted to have a Disney’s Fairytale Wedding. Thinking about the many places we could potentially have one, having a wedding on picturesque Castaway Cay was the only option.

Given my love of The Little Mermaid, Johnny’s infatuation with the sand and surf, the fact that his family are avid boaters, my brother is in the British Royal Navy, and because we were also were engaged on a beach in Bora Bora – Taking a tropical week-long cruise with our closest friends and family in the very capable hands of Disney’s cast members just made sense!

Tell us about all the different Little Mermaid touches you had at your wedding!
I wanted to make sure that there were plenty of nods to The Little Mermaid throughout the ceremony, dinner, reception and after party. Even prior to getting ready, the girls and myself wore t-shirts designed by my friend Traci Hines that had seashells on them! (P.S. You can also get their super cute Cakeworthy Ariel flannels at shopDisney!)

I had a total of six bridesmaids, which worked out perfectly because as we know – Ariel has six sisters! Each of my bridesmaids’ gowns were handmade by David McCarthy (aka “DavidForDisney”) who tirelessly spent months designing and creating each dress by hand. My male bridesmaid, Richie, wore a custom powder-blue suit that also matched one of the sisters.

But we know it all comes down to the details, right? Each of my bridesmaids had custom-made hair pieces that were decorated with colored shells and pearls. Richie had a custom-made octopus brooch, while I wore a small starfish in my hair. My husband, Johnny, had a sea horse brooch (his favorite animal in the sea!) and his groomsmen all wore anchor-shaped custom brooches. The hair pieces and brooches were lovingly made by my friend Stephanie Michael (stayclassystephanie). Our flower girl was even Disney inspired as Flounder. To top it all off, my flower bouquet had silver starfish and we had a custom runner down the aisle that had “Part of Our World.”

I changed into two new dresses throughout the rest of the evening. One for our first dance, which took inspiration from Ariel’s wedding dress from the animated movie (this was also created by David McCarthy). The final dress took inspiration from Ariel’s dress at the end of the movie when she walks out of the ocean for the final time to be with her prince.

Why is The Little Mermaid one of your Disney favorites?
I’ve always loved The Little Mermaid and how Ariel, despite everyone making her feel that her dreams are impossible, defies everyone to reach her goals. Some people forget that Ariel wanted to walk on land even before she laid eyes on her future hubby. It really was her dream! She’s strong and brave and even though she makes mistakes, she learns from them and doesn’t stop at anything to put things right. The song “Part Of Your World” is also my favorite Disney song of all time … We even had it sung live at the reception!

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Colette: “My favorite part of the day was our first dance, because it was completely not choreographed and turned out better than we could have ever planned. We danced to the Moulin Rouge! version of “Your Song” originally by Elton John, and I had a dress custom made to light up. And then at the very end, totally unprompted, the bridesmaids and groomsmen all came together for a group hug. It was amazing.”

Johnny: “There were so many moments, it is hard to pick just one. From the first time I saw Colette walk down the aisle, to when Disney arranged for two special friends – Donald and Goofy – to show up in their regalia from one of our favorite video games, “Kingdom Hearts,” to everyone getting on the floor ‘a little bit softer now’ during the song “Shout,” to the fireworks show at the conclusion of it all … The entire experience was just magical. You know when you say “I’d give anything to relive that experience again”? – It was like that!”

What piece of advice would you give to future Disney brides?
Disney will do anything your heart desires – You just need to ask. Their level of creativity and willingness to make your dreams come true are second to none … I can’t wait for our 10-year anniversary because we’re doing it all over again!
