One-on-One With Club Mickey Mouse Singer, Actress, Dancer Leanne Tessa

For our “Because I’m a Lady” series, we sat down with one of Club Mickey Mouse‘s leading ladies, Leanne Tessa, to chat about all things Disney and fashion.

First, can you tell us a little bit about your role in Club Mickey Mouse?

I write music, sing, dance, act, and just be myself while having a blast with my fellow Mouseketeers!

How did you get started in singing and dancing?

I started singing and dancing when I was about 6 years old and trained in jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and even en pointe ballet. I also started playing the piano and guitar at a very young age as well as acting in plays and musicals. I even played Ariel in my school’s production of The Little Mermaid!

How does it feel to be living out this legacy as one of the leading ladies of Club Mickey Mouse?

To be living out the legacy as one of the leading ladies of Club Mickey Mouse is an opportunity of a lifetime! It’s definitely one of the most amazing experiences and privileges I have been given. To see how the original cast members paved their way into sharing their love for the arts makes me excited for our turn to share our creative talents with all generations, especially mine.

Disney Style fans are obsessed with the Club Mickey Mouse jackets. How does it feel to be setting a fashion trend?

Fashion has always been my sweet spot. I absolutely love putting together killer outfits. I am usually the one keeping up with trends, but now we, the new Mouseketeers, are the ones making the trends! It makes me so happy to know that the fans love the jackets just as much as I do. I remember the very first time I put my arms through the sleeves—it felt like everything was real for the first time. I AM A MEMBER OF CLUB MICKEY MOUSE!

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style definitely changes depending on what I’m doing, but you can always count on me to be looking my best! Sometimes I even set up my outfits the night before I wear them to make sure I am serving the looks I want (ha!). For my styles, I usually go for everything from classic and chic to grunge vintage, to edgy rock n’ roll.

What does Disney style mean to you?

Disney style to me means everything magical! Whether it be dressing up as your favorite Princess or character, (mine is either Ariel or Moana), throwing on your favorite Mickey tee, or even just wearing ears to the Parks. My favorite pair of ears is definitely the Minnie Mouse polka dot snapback hat—it’s so adorable!

What’s your favorite Disney memory?

Like many fans, when I was younger, I loved taking pictures with my favorite Disney characters and getting their signatures. To this day, my autograph book sits in a drawer right by my bed. I also love trading Disney pins with cast members and a friends. But my most favorite memory of all was recently when us Mouseketeers were Grand Marshals in the parade at the Magic Kingdom. Just hearing our theme song as we sat in the Grand Marshal car waving to all the families was so surreal. I was crying tears of joy!

What would you tell your younger self about following your dreams to get to where you are today?

I would tell my younger self to keep that passion for performing and love for music. Most importantly, to never stop pursuing your dreams. Because believe it or not, when you dream big, BIG things happen! Everything is possible when you put your mind to it, coupled with hard work, determination and persistence.
