We asked fashion and beauty Disney fan Heather Traska to share her five tips for embracing your curves and dressing up in Disney style this holiday season!
We’re trimming the tree, decking the halls, and spending the holiday season at the Disney Parks! The holiday season is the most magical time of year, and it’s the perfect opportunity to show off your festive #DisneyStyle! As a self-proclaimed Disney holiday expert and plus-size fashion enthusiast, here are my five tips to create the perfect holiday outfit:
- Put together a festive Disney bound.
Nobody decorates quite like Disney! It brings me such joy to see the Toy Soldiers pop up throughout the Festival of Holidays at the Disneyland Resort. After all, ‘it’s a small world’ Holiday is my favorite attraction and a seasonal classic. What better way to get in the holiday spirit than to “pa rum pum pum pum” down Buena Vista Street in this Toy Soldier-inspired ensemble?
- Add a little sugar and spice!
Whether you’re having visions of sugarplums or spending the day baking cookies with family, let’s face it – sweets are a quintessential element of the holidays! DIY your own gingerbread look with a simple brown dress, white ribbon, and peppermint buttons! I couldn’t wait to wear this look to visit the giant gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa this year.
- Bring out your “not-so-ugly” sweater.
Turn heads and stay warm this holiday season in what I like to call a not-so-ugly sweater. Paired with a simple pair of jeans and red shoes, you’re ready to celebrate the holidays wherever you are!
- Let it snow and let it sparkle!
Growing up in the Midwest, snow was such a magical part of the holidays for me. Though Los Angeles may be lacking in real snow, in select areas and at various times at the Disneyland Resort, you can experience your own personal flurry! And don’t forget—it’s the most glamorous time of the year, too, so bring out your lush fabrics and sparkle! (Bonus points if your winter look doubles as an Elsa Disney bound.)
- Keep it classic.
You simply can’t go wrong with an iconic combo like red and green during the holidays. I loved pairing this festive Disneyland graphic tee with my beloved candy cane-striped skirt. (Really, it’s the only time you’ll find me in a t-shirt.) My bestie Natasha Polis and I paired up to create coordinating red and green ensembles that are equal parts holiday cheer and Disney style! Don’t forget to add some holiday Minnie ears for good measure.
Very merry, indeed! No matter what shape or size, incorporating your love of the holidays and Disney is fun for everyone! I can’t wait to see what magical outfits you create. Be sure to tag me @heathertraska and use the hashtag #disneystyle!
