Meet Evan: Designer, cosplayer, Disneybounder and huge Star Wars fan.
At Disney Style we love fashion and the characters from a galaxy far, far away though few of us have the creativity and commitment to devote an entire month to make our very own Star Wars-inspired outfit. But that’s exactly what sixteen-year-old Evan did for Sydney’s special screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
We were lucky enough to follow Evan’s journey from having a rough sketch through to a colourful and glam, red carpet reveal. Throw in striking make-up and a hairstyle to match, some jewellery, a pair of red and gold heels to complete the look, and heads turned Evan’s way for the whole night!

The Star Wars universe captivated Evan at a very early age with its beauty, diversity and richness and those elements appear in Evan’s everyday style, fashion designs and choice of colour pairings. For The Last Jedi outfit, inspiration came from Sabine Wren, a character Evan loved from the first moment she appeared onscreen in the animated Star Wars Rebels series. The Rebel and Mandalorian warrior, weapons expert and graffiti artist also likes to add her own custom embellishments to her armour.
The ‘Sabine Suit’ design incorporates both Evan’s personal style and an imagining of how that character may present if she was in our universe – bold colour, an edgy, vibrant energy, and of course her signature starbird emblem.
Evan discovered costuming at age eight after visiting Disneyland for the first time. It was the spark that lit the fire of passion for all things Disney and Star Wars. Evan keeps their first attempt at costuming in the wardrobe – armour made from green cardboard and elastic – as a reminder of what can be achieved with hard work and a little imagination.
As a proud member of Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club, Evan now uses different types of plastic, heat guns, 3D printers, spray paints and airbrushing to create amazing costumes and armour based on Star Wars‘ favourite bounty hunters and mercenaries, you may have heard of the legendary Boba Fett, long-time enemy of our hero and beloved scoundrel Han Solo.
In addition to undertaking the final two years of high school and some specialist design and fashion courses; Evan is rebuilding their costume armour using metal and finalising designs inspired by Valkyrie from Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok, a grungey look using patches for Beauty and the Beast’s Belle (yes, there’s a rose patch), and a dress based on Captain Phasma, one of the villains from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Almost every waking moment for Evan, and plenty of dreaming hours we’re told, is spent conceptualising, sketching designs, and being inspired by literally everything, “It’s such a beautiful world and there are so many things you can look for that are very unique, interesting and can be reused or adapted whether it’s someone’s great look that caught your eye on the train, or you’re simply looking outside at the weather, colours and textures around you. Honestly, it’s fun getting stuff out of my mind and into the world.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in cinemas now. Let us know in the comments what glam Star Wars-inspired outfit you’d love to make.
