A Disney Style Guide to Wearing Denim on Denim

In fashion, there are a number of so-called “don’ts” that have puzzled the population for years. Don’t wear white after Labor Day, don’t mix navy with black, don’t wear denim with denim, and so on. But in the fashion world, rules are meant to be broken, and more and more of these don’ts actually become fashion trends.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to double down on your denim! Wearing denim with other denim has made its way into mainstream fashion, but there’s still a right way to do it. And as Disney fans, there’s even a Disney Style way to do it. Here’s how:

1. Break denim shades up with a classic t-shirt.

It’s ok to mix and match denim tones, as long as they are broken up with something simple. You don’t want to add something too busy or loud, but a classic Mickey tee will do the trick!

2. Play with proportion.

Find silhouettes that work with your body shape. We love cropped wide-leg jeans with a denim vest. Tuck in a statement tee and throw on some high-top sneakers for a casual tonal look.

3. Add accents that distract.

You can get away with wearing a whole lot of denim at once if you do it right. In fact, we love a light wash denim shirt over dark skinny jeans, covered with a Disney patched denim jacket. The accented jacket is a statement piece that can really make your outfit stand out.

4. Give in to the ’80s.

Sporting light wash denim on denim is in fact, a very 80s style, so play into the inspired look with high-waisted bottoms and off the shoulder tops. (Just don’t tease your hair big and put it to one side.) We suggest doing half-up double buns to complete this Minnie-style look!

Just remember, fashion is about wearing whatever makes you confident and comfortable—there are no rules! And this season’s denim on denim trend is proof of just that.
