How Givenchy Made Bambi a Fashion Icon

In 2013, Riccardo Tisci, former Creative Director at Givenchy, knew that bringing a hint of Disney to his collection would be a huge win—and he was right.

Givenchy brought Bambi to the forefront of designer fashion. It was a year where the industry was focused on comfort, nostalgia, and specifically, the reinvention of the sweatshirt, and Tisci’s solution was oversized with an eye-catching graphic that would resonate with just about everyone. The graphic stayed true to the brand’s dark romanticism, but was mixed with a recognizable character known and loved by all—Bambi. Soon after, the sweatshirt was seen on celebrities and fashion tastemakers like Beyoncé, Lily Collins, and former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris Carine Roitfeld, who rocked the sweatshirt to the 2014 Met Gala.

The graphic, which was also released on leather goods, quickly grew popular amongst fashionistas around the world. More recently, Givenchy put a new spin on the graphic with a black and white line drawing reminiscent of Bambi’s original sketches.

While many labels including Markus Lupfer and LC by Lauren Conrad have partnered with Disney to feature our beloved fawn in their collections, Givenchy truly brought Bambi into the fashion spotlight.

The Bambi Anniversary Edition is available on Digital HD & Disney Movies Anywhere now, and on Blu-ray June 6.
