Fashion isn’t always about looking for the next new trend. In fact, sometimes the next big thing is actually inspired by decades past, simply presented in a contemporary way. (Believe it or not folks, high-waisted jeans and slip dresses were not invented yesterday.) During our recent trip with Adventures by Disney, I challenged myself with creating Disney Style-approved looks inspired by the last few decades. And with the expertise of our guides, we visited iconic locations all around Los Angeles that served as perfect backdrops to each period.
I’ve always dreamt of becoming a Mouseketeer, can’t you tell? Channelling my inner Mouseketeer in a ’50s inspired look was a real treat. A simple necktie scarf and rockabilly skirt are all it takes to go back in time and look the part!
There’s no wrong time to wear a tie-dye T-shirt, and this one from the Disney Store is one of my favorites. It’s an ode to the ’60s that really brings out my free-spirited, groovy side.
Oh, how I wish I could go back to the’ 70s and wear all of the folksy suede, flared denim, and gold lame the era has to offer. I chose a yellow velvet jumpsuit and a pair of oversized glasses to give the look some disco vibes. It was only fitting that I add my Missoni Minnie ears to top off this inspired look.
After receiving this Lazy Oaf x Disney Marie jacket in the mail, I immediately thought it looked ’80s-inspired. The boxy cut of the jacket mixed with a pair of Ray-Ban wayfarers, leggings, my Cinderella bag, and frilly socks was exactly what I needed to put together this look.
’90s fashion is so prevalent today that putting this outfit together felt totally effortless. Pairing my UNIQLO Mickey shirt under a slip dress with a choker is something I could do everyday. I tied a plaid shirt around my waist and added heavy boots to add more of the ’90s grunge feel to my look.
I loved taking on this challenge and recommend you try it, too! I get a lot of my inspiration from past decades, so mixing that with my Disney side was certainly fun. It just goes to show that fashions may come and go, but Mickey never goes out of style!
