There’s no way around it: Matching outfits have something of a cutesy rep. Usually reserved for holiday cards, coordinated sibling photo shoots, and couples’ trips to Disneyland, they’re a self-consciously sweet symbol of togetherness—fun on special occasions, but rarely whipped out for day-to-day use. Thinking back on some of our favorite Disney couples, however, we thought some coordinated looks inspired by these characters would offer a fresh and wearable take on his and hers “twinning.”
Whether you’re looking to get extra dressed up for a trip to the Parks, or are assembling a casual look to wear on your own, carrying or wearing a memento of these inspiring relationships is sure to put a spring in your step. Check out the sets below to see if we featured your favorite pair:
Surveying the romantic relationships that exist in the Disney universe, Carl and Ellie’s is the most aspirational of them all. Marked by a sunny spirit of adventure and optimism, the glimpses we get of the couple together in UP buoy the rest of the movie and it gave us plenty of inspiration for this matching outfit. Ellie’s necklace gets special recognition for its round baubles, reminiscent of the balloons the couple is remembered for.
Just because Lady and Tramp aren’t humans doesn’t mean they can’t inspire great human outfits. Using their signature color schemes, including that of their respective collars, we matched a Tramp-inspired top and burgundy jacket to a cable knit sweater in the same shade as Lady’s fur. Rather than collars, we’ve included a pair of chic watches.
If there were any couple we could imagine wearing matching Converse kicks—the perfect sneakers for an on-the-go couple—it’d be Rapunzel and Flynn. Inspired by Rapunzel’s famous braid and Flynn Rider’s navy top, we’ve included a floral dress and a resilient denim top. The camera is a final nod to their adventures.
Though these outfits styled in the spirt of Simba and Nala include a wide variety of apparel, their earthy color scheme links them together in a circle of style that moves us all. We’re especially big fans of the lion cuff, pictured here as part of the Nala-inspired outfit, and these two-tone, Simba-inspired shades.
Of course we had to include Mickey and Minnie—the most iconic Disney couple of them all. This fashionable pair’s minimalist color scheme of black, red, and white gives us endless style possibilities. Rock the dots with a polka-dotted pocket square or add a simple Minnie-inspired crossbody to any outfit for a throwback Disney ensemble.
