Gadget Totally Predicted These 5 Trends From Today

Gadget, the confident, competent, leading lady from Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, always knew how to rig up a solution to any tricky situation. Who knew that while this quick-thinking inventor was helping her friends, she was simultaneously predicting many of today’s fashion trends?

We dug through her style archive for an early throwback chronicling the ways this witty mouse was lightyears ahead of us all.

1. Crop Tops

Gadget hardly ever wore makeup or dresses, but that never stopped her from being fashion forward. Pictured here with her signature mechanic’s goggles, she wears a loose crop top in a sunny shade of yellow. The way she matches it to her brightly colored shorts so that they look like one piece also reminds us of today’s popular romper style.

2. High Waisted Shorts

High waisted shorts are a trend we’re all about, and this crop top and high waisted short ensemble by Gadget fits in as well today as it did in Rescue Rangers. We’re especially big fans of this pair for their  A-line silhouette—a shape often reserved for skirts, but oh-so-practical in shorts form.

3. Jumpsuits

On those days when you don’t feel like coordinating entire outfits, jumpsuits offer the perfect solution. Gadget’s offers a stylish twist on a traditional mechanic’s uniform with its chic addition of a  purple belt and shade of pastel purple.

4. Skater Skirts

Speaking of darling silhouettes, this beachwear—or more specifically, the skater skirt fitted atop it— is the summer outfit of our dreams. Its shade of hot pink and purple belt add yet another pop of color to her wardrobe in a nod to today’s neon trends.

5. Athletic Leggings

We didn’t think anyone could have predicted the massive surge in popularity athletic leggings have seen in recent years. Revisiting Gadget’s wardrobe, we stand corrected. Her leggings, worn here under a bright pink leotard, look like anything you could buy at Lululemon or Nike today, earning her major style prediction points.

What’s the next piece of Gadget style you think will be resurrected? Mechanic’s goggles? Leotards? Share in the comments!
