If you’ve never been to a Disney Park during Dapper Day, you are definitely missing out. It’s almost like traveling back in time to Disneyland’s opening day, when everyone dressed in their finest to go the park. Planning an outfit is part of the fun of Dapper Day, but it can definitely be a challenge if you don’t have a closet filled with vintage dresses. Luckily you may already have the things you need to make a great vintage-inspired outfit! Here are a few of our favorite tips for putting together a Dapper Day ensemble:
Pick a classic silhouette
Whether you’re planning on wearing a dress or top and skirt combo, stick to styles that are timeless. Pencil skirts, shift, and A-line dresses are great picks versus empire waist dresses or high-low skirts.
Mind your shoes
When planning your shoes, keep in mind that you’ll be walking around the park all day. While those adorable pumps might seem like a great idea at first, you’ll probably regret them towards the end of the day. Pick ballet flats, oxfords, or even saddle shoes if you have them, so you can stick to the time period without hurting your feet!
Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize
Once you have your shoes and main parts of your outfit picked out, it’s time to accessorize. A wide brimmed hat, gloves, cat eye sunglasses, and fascinators can take an outfit from 2015 to 1960.
Shop at vintage stores, thrift stores, and flea markets
If you’re looking for pieces to add a vintage flair to your outfit, try looking at vintage stores, thrift stores, and flea markets. You’ll never know if you’ll find a cool purse or embroidered sweater that can make an outfit stand out.
Raid your grandparents’ closet
Never underestimate the power of your grandparents’ closets. There could be some hidden gems just waiting to be discovered (and your grandparents will probably love a visit from you). Search for great cocktail jewelry pieces, tweed blazers, scarves and brooches that you can add on to your ensemble.
Try a vintage-inspired hair or makeup look
You don’t have to be a pro hair stylist or makeup artist to pull off ‘50s or ‘60s style. There’s plenty of tutorials on how to get the perfect cat eye, or finger waves. Just search on internet and you can definitely find something that works for you.
Pay attention to your styling
Now that you’ve got all the pieces, it’s time to put your ensemble all together! Little things like making sure your items are ironed or that your shirt is tucked in will make a big difference. You can also try draping your coat over your shoulders for a chic way to wear your jacket.
Have fun with it!
Dapper Day is all about expressing yourself through the classic styles of yesteryear, so find a look that works for you. If you’re confident and having fun, your outfit is sure to be a hit at Dapper Day!
