Prom can be an overwhelming if sequins and frills aren’t your style. For the girl who marches to the beat of her own drum, a Merida-inspired outfit is the perfect way to go.
To capture Merida’s headstrong personality, we decided to include some non-traditional elements, but still make it fancy enough for Prom. The green dress has a leaf-like pattern similar to the forests that Merida loves to ride in. A shorter length keeps a Prom look from being too stuffy, and we think Merida would appreciate the flowy nature of it.
We accented the look with gold elements, much like Merida’s dress that she wears to the games. A gold belt pops against the green nicely and keeps the look from being too formal. As a nod to Merida’s love of archery, we included an arrow necklace and a headband that has arrow-like geometric accents.
While we all can’t have Merida’s rebellious red curls, we decided a bold red lip would help keep the look from treading into casual territory. For hair, we recommend using a curling wand to create vintage-like waves. Secure the look with a flexible hold hairspray, so your curls last throughout the night. And we have to think that Merida would scoff at the idea of wearing painful heels, so we went with a brown oxfords instead. Trust us, everyone will be envious you were so smart about your footwear.
