This week on “Because I’m a Lady,” we chatted with actress and model Jonna Walsh!
Tell us a little bit about yourself! Who are you and what do you do?
Hi! My name is Jonna Walsh. I am an actress/model from Los Angeles, California.
How and when did you get started in acting/modeling?
I started modeling when I was 13. I started acting when I turned 18—pretty much when my mom would let me drive myself to auditions!
Where did your love of Disney begin?
My love of Disney began when I was five or six years old. My parents were really into animation and I remember The Little Mermaid being the most amazing movie I had ever seen. As I grew up, my dad really helped expand my love for Disney films outside of animation. Anything from The Parent Trap to Swiss Family Robinson. Plus, it helped that I grew up 40 minutes from Disneyland.
How does your love of Disney inspire you to do what you love?
Like any actress, I am obsessed with stories. Disney stories are so magical, and such an escape from real life. Watching Disney movies allows me to dive into my imagination, and that’s when I feel the most creative. Acting is all about bringing a story to life. Disney has always given me new ideas of how to look at things.
Which Disney character are you most like and why?
I feel like I am most like Cinderella because she loves animals, and also talks to them. I have rescued many animals, and have always related to them. Also in the new, live-action Cinderella, her motto is “Have courage and be kind.” And I try my best to live my life that way.
How did you start partnering with Disney brands like Harveys?
I started partnering with Harveys a few years ago when they contacted my agency to hire me for their lookbook. It was all kind of fate that I was also a huge Disney freak and they had many amazing Disney lines! Collaborating with them has been awesome.
You had a reoccurring role on Freeform’s Baby Daddy and even made cameos in Disney Channel’s Phil of the Future. What do you love most about being part of the Disney family?
Yes, I play Zoey on Freeform’s Baby Daddy. The best part about being a part of this show, this network, and the entire Disney family is BY FAR the fans. The Disney fans are so dedicated and so awesome and supportive. Plus, sometimes they come up to me at Disneyland and that always makes my day.
What is some advice you can give to other aspiring actors?
My advice to other aspiring actors is that no one is perfect. We all have bad auditions. Try to always remember to have fun and stay creative. For every door that closes, another one will surely open. Be brave enough to walk through it.
